Shetland Islands

We arrived in fog, and the seas have been calm all day.  No issues with tendering to the Shetland docks.  Mary and I enjoyed a quiet morning on board a nearly deserted ship before having burgers on the Lido deck for lunch and heading to shore for our Seabirds and Seals wildlife boat excursion.
Our excursion was fabulous!  We saw several seals and lots of birds, especially gannets, a long range water bird. There were something like 25,000 gannets nesting on the one long cliff face. You can see one rock face here with a few gannets in the foreground. But the coolest feature was when the captain backed the boat into a cave and launched a tethered submersible drone with a camera and lights.  We got to see all the sea life that lives on the rocks in these caverns, from kelp to tiny plants that live on the kelp to sea urchins, starfish, and several types of coral, not to mention some sponges, tube worms and various other small animals.  We even saw one jellyfish floating in the cave.  All this marine life was shown on TV screens in the boat from the drone.

Not much going on this evening as we leave the Shetland Islands before reaching Iceland in 2 days.  It's hard to believe we've only been gone 1 week, since we've seen so much.

Very cool!!! Hope the trip to Iceland is on calm seas! [Pat, the website for tracking ship is: http://www.cruisin.me/cruise-ship-tracker/princess-cruises/caribbean-princess.php When you get to the website go down to the gray box and answer questions...Type, Cruise Line & Ship name. Then when the map comes up zoom in with mouse or the '+' symbol on the map. Then you can see where the ship is located and even see the names of the other boats/ ships around them. Hope this helps] ~Sylvia
