Our San Pedro Day

We woke up this morning to heavy rain that was forecast to continue all day.  Since our plans involved a lot of of door activity(USS Iowa and the Ports of Call Village) I started looking for alternatives.
I'd heard that whale watching is popular and the grey whales are migrating south to Mexico now, and it was not too pricy. The Aquarium of the Pacific also caught my eye and I found they offer a package of both the aquarium and whale watching for a discount so we decide to do that today.  The aquarium was interesting, but had several outdoor areas and was also hosting a large number of school groups today.  We enjoyed seeing the sea otters play and a couple of shows involving divers in the tanks with the fish. The feeding demonstration was quite enjoyable to watch, especially how the diver was able to feed the fish he wanted without feeding the others.
The whale watching turned out to be a disappointment. We saw one harbor seal, then headed out into open water, but the swells were running 8-10' and were close together which made for an extremely choppy ride.  After about 10 minutes, the captain turned us around and we headed back.  They gave us a full refund.  On our way back to the dock the captain explained that these islands were actually drilling platforms, with a Disney-designed disguise.  Can you find the drilling derrick?
Since the rain slacked off we thought about visiting the USS IOWA, but we were a bit tired and then the rain picked up so we took that as a sign and headed back to the hotel.  I had to turn in the rental car so I did that and now we are relaxing and getting ready for the cruise tomorrow.
