Hawaii Cruise Day 9 - Hilo (Big Island)

We both enjoyed today's excursion  very much, first visiting Mauna Loa Macadamia Factory and Store, and then on to Volcanoes National Park.  At the park we saw  some steam vents followed by the Kilauea Caldera (crater) with volcanic lava spouting up!  It's rather difficult to see the lava on the photo, as it appears as just a fiery dot, but it was amazing to see in person.
Our next stop was a 1974 lava field, followed by a walk-thru a lava tube.  The tube was over 75 meters long and quite dark (with just a few lights to show the way)
We got back to the ship by 1:30 for a quick lunch before I tried my hand at bean-bag toss (came in second with 10 points) and basketball shooting (I won a water bottle by making 5 hoops!) After returning to our room we spotted some whales in the distance which we enjoyed seeing.

We had dinner this evening is in the Crown Grill, Princess' onboard steak house, courtesy of my travel agent.  Mary enjoyed a lobster tail dinner while I had an excellent ribeye steak.

The desserts were fabulous as well, from Mary's 7 Layer S'mores to my Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie.

WOW! Sounds like a really great day followed by a great meal! Maybe you'll see more whales when you are at sea for the trip home. Relax and enjoy the quiet day. ~Sylvia
