Heading West

Today we started our 2-week vacation to Colorado and Utah. Our itinerary is to fly to Denver, drive to Salt Lake City, then visit some National Parks in  northeast Utah, followed by seeing scenic western Colorado before arriving is Aspen next Wednesday morning for the annual John Denver festivities.

Our flight to Denver today was uneventful  (which is always very good!), but upon arriving, the clouds were so low we could not see the ground until we had almost landed.  We got into our rental car and headed west, only to encounter heavy fog for the first half hour of our drive.

After that the sun came out and we had good sight-seeing the rest of the way to Glenwood Springs. We are here a week earlier than past years, and seeing the yellow aspen trees among the evergreens was beautiful!   (Click a picture to enlarge) There were many more beautiful and colorful vistas, but it was difficult to get pictures of many due to traffic and sun angle. So you can use your imagination with these.

The ride through Glenwood Canyon was as pretty as ever.  The photo on the left is one of my favorite scenes. Once we arrived in Glenwood Springs we checked in and headed to the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub for dinner and a glass of my favorite Hanging Lake Honey Ale.  Yum!

Tomorrow we have a long drive to Salt Lake City.
