Heading to Salt Lake City

Today was our one long driving day - 5 1/2 hours of car time.  We left shortly after 8:00 am and arrived in Salt Lake City by 2:30 pm.  The scenery as we headed west in Colorado was quite interesting as you can see in the first three pictures.  It changed significantly about every 30 miles. But once we hit the Utah line,  it was amazingly boring (see bottom right picture).  To give you an idea, there was a sign on I-70 that said "No Services for the next 46 miles".  No services. as in no gas stations, food or lodging.  It was very barren land.

As we approached Provo, Utah, the scenery got more interesting and resembled western Colorado. We even passed thru a canyon that reminded us of Glenwood Canyon, but not nearly as impressive.

Tonight's big event was attending a practice of the Mormon Tabernacle Bell Choir, a 32 person bell choir with an amazing range of bells and chimes.  It was VERY impressive, and we especially loved that they were playing Christmas music.  Many girls were playing two bells in each hand and one even played three in one hand!
On our way out we took a picture of the temple.
I took some videos.  You have to go to view the blog on the web page.
Here's a short video of the bell choir practicing.  If you want to hear more, click here for a 1:22 video of the choir playing a jazzy O Christmas Tree and other Christmas songs:

We're in Salt Lake City for 2 nights so we can attend an organ concert at the Tabernacle tomorrow, see the Great Salt Lake, and other sights around town before heading on to Moab.
